ABOUT LENS CRAFT
Hi, I'm Kate
I’m a photographer, educator and the person behind Lens Craft.
Photography has been part of my life for many years. What started as an interest in making photographs developed into a much deeper interest in how photography works — technically, visually and creatively.
I created Lens Craft to share that knowledge and make photography easier to understand without oversimplifying it.
Photography: the craft, the science, the art.

MY BACKGROUND
Photography has always given me something more to learn.
I have an Advanced Diploma of Photography from TAFE SA, but my photography education certainly didn’t stop there.
One of the things I love most about photography is that there is always something else to discover. There are technical skills to understand, different ways to work with light, new ways to approach a subject and, perhaps most importantly, new ways to see.
Over the years, I’ve continued to develop my own photography while teaching others. Teaching has made me think differently about photography too. It isn’t enough to know what works. I want to understand why it works and be able to explain that clearly.
That approach became an important part of Lens Craft.
WHY LENS CRAFT
I don’t think learning photography should be about memorising settings.
Knowing which aperture, shutter speed or ISO to use is helpful, but photography is much bigger than camera settings.
You need to understand what those settings do, why you might choose one over another and how those decisions affect the photograph you’re trying to make.
But you also need to learn to see.
To notice light. Colour. Shape. Line. Texture. Relationships. Moments. And all the other things that can turn an ordinary scene into a photograph worth making.
Then there’s the creative side — deciding what interests you, how you want to photograph it and what you want your photographs to communicate.
That combination is at the heart of Lens Craft.

LENS CRAFT TODAY
Photography education for curious creatives.
Lens Craft is a place to keep learning about photography.
At the centre of Lens Craft is Lens Craft: The Membership, a structured photography program designed to build your knowledge and skills over time.
Fundamentals takes you through the foundations of photography — from learning to see and understanding your camera to composition, light, colour, tone, creative development and presenting your finished work.
There are also photography challenges, courses, eBooks, downloads and other resources that give you different ways to learn and, importantly, plenty of reasons to pick up your camera and photograph.
You can choose what suits you. You don’t need to do everything, and you don't need to learn photography in exactly the same way as somebody else.
MY APPROACH
Practical. Thoughtful. Made to be used.
I want Lens Craft lessons to give you something you can actually use when you pick up your camera.
That means clear explanations without unnecessary jargon, practical activities that have a purpose and enough depth to help you understand why you're doing something rather than simply following instructions.
I also don't believe there is one correct way to be a photographer.
The goal isn't for you to photograph like me.
It's to give you the knowledge, skills and understanding to make your own decisions — and gradually develop the photographer you want to be.

THERE IS ALWAYS MORE TO DISCOVER
Learn the craft. Understand the science. Explore the art.
Whether you're here to build your skills, deepen your understanding or simply see more in your everyday surroudings, I'm so glad you're here.
